Group to Buy Hong Kong Internet Provider for $6 Million

A joint venture including Singapore's Sembawang Media, Pacific Media Plc of the U.K. and Germany's Bertelsmann group will purchase Hong Kong SuperNet, an Internet service provider, for $6.1 million. SuperNet, one of Hong Kong's first ISPs, has over 9,000 subscribers, including some of the colony's leading businesses.


Microsoft Launches Slate Magazine

AT&T Internet in Europe

"I think Internet will be important in the future," AT&T's vice president of strategy said "I think Internet will be important in the future, future revenues from AT&T's Internet services would be "significant" AT&T is bringing its WorldNet Internet access service to Europe this summer as part of an overall strategy to increase its business exposure in markets outside the United States.


Wyse with $500 Net access devices

Wyse unveiled its Winterm line of Internet access, thin client computing devices. All four Winterm models offer point-to-point protocol and modem capabilities, and allow users to rent Microsoft Windows applications from Internet Service Providers.

The Winterm Model 2300 has a "paperback-book-sized" logic box that can support either a wall-mounted or freestanding display, while Winterm 2000T, 2500T, and 2700T come with either 14 or 15-inch displays. All four models come equipped with a keyboard and a mouse.

All four Winterm thin client computing devices will be available in July with prices starting at $500.


Internet TV

The iBox is designed to give users Net access and, as with similar devices from other companies, is designed to sell for under $500., It connects to a standard phone line and a television set. The basic unit features a built-in 28.8-kbps modem and CD-ROM drive, along with 4MB to 8MB of memory. Keyboards, floppy disk drives, and printers can plug in through serial and parallel ports but are all sold separately.


Yahoo into television programming

Yahoo in partnership with Granite Broadcasting to do media offerings with television programming. Yahoo's we be first to have an Internet search engine into the TV space.
