President Clinton worried about Internet

President Bill Clinton said Wednesday he was worried the Internet was aiding international terrorism by making it too easy for sinister forces to learn how to make bombs or produce nerve gas.


Bell Atlantic cuts prices for ISDN

Bell Atlantic announced a new plan for residential ISDN service that cuts prices anywhere from 15 percent to 86 percent.

The Baby Bell announced several levels of pricing for Integrated Services Digital Network connections, all of which apply a monthly fee and additional per-minute charges--2 cents a minute for prime-time hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and 1 cent a minute for off-peak hours.

For $31 a month, for example, a user gets 20 free hours plus per-minute charges for every hour thereafter. Unlimited usage is a flat $249 a month. Measured service, which costs $23.50 a month plus per-minute usage charges for all time spent online, will only be available to residents of New Jersey and Virginia.


Apple to lay off 2,800 in next year

Apple Computer announced plans to lay off 2,800 employees over the next year after posting expected net losses of $740 million, or $5.99 per share, for the second quarter ending March 29.


Time Warner Sees Cable Modem Launch In Summer

Time Warner would likely charge $25 to $40 a month and would supply customers with a modem capable of delivering graphics, sounds and text at a much quicker rate than telephone lines.

Jennifer Johnson owns Webpersonals, a World Wide Web site for single people looking for dates. Johnson bought Webpersonals last year and has built it into one of the most popular web sites for singles, with about 9,000 visitors a day. Now the 29-year-old New Yorker is holding a public auction on the Internet in an effort to sell the site at a tidy premium.

Johnson, a graduate of Columbia University's business school, says she paid "less than five figures" for Webpersonals, but hopes to sell it for anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000.

Ad Revenues At 16 Top Web Sites Estimated At $6.6 Million

Advertising revenues garnered by 16 popular World Wide Web sites increased slightly in March, to $6.6 million, according to estimates by Electronic Marketplace Report. Infoseek bringing in an estimated $1.7 million in March from 117 advertisers. ZD Net was No 2, bringing in an estimated $856,000 C|net was third with an estimated $555,000 in ad revenue for March. Netscape was fourth with $541,000.
