Netscape In Compuserve, America Online Deals

CompuServe s (4.5 million customers) will now join AOL (5 million customers) by distributing Netscape's Navigator browser software to customers of both the CompuServe Information Service and SPRYNET Internet access service. Other marketing and strategic opportunities will be announced separately.
Netscape, based in Mountain View, Calif., estimates there are 15 million to 20 million users of the Netscape Navigator, but that does not include copies bundled with computers sold by companies like Sun Microsystems.


Apple Finally Confirms Eworld Is History

Apple Computer has officially confirmed what already is widely known--it is closing down its struggling eWorld online service. A spokeswoman said the company would close it down at the end of the month. Word went out to content providers last week and it leaked to the press. eWorld, which launched in June 1994, has about 147,000 subscribers.


Yahoo! Files For Public Offering

Yahoo! anticipates the initial public offering price to be between $10 and $12 per share.


Internet, Online Service Use On The Rise

A growing number of Americans are dialing into online computer services toaccess the Internet, according to a pair of new surveys. Odyssey, an independent market research firm that tracks consumer patterns, said Internet use in the United States doubled in the last six months while another study said subscriptions to U.S. online services surged 64.4 percent last year to nearly 15 million users. The Odyssey study is based on responses from 2,000 consumers.


BellSouth To Offer Internet Access

BellSouth, plans to offer Internet access to local phone customers in 10 metropolitan area's by this summer.


Compaq Offers New PCs, Cuts Prices On Others

Compaq Computer introduced 33 new personal computer models today and cut prices by up to 21 percent on several existing lines of PCs in a move likely to set off a price war inthe industry.


IBM Cuts Prices Further On Desktop PCs

IBM says it has made additional price cuts in its commercial desktop personal computer line, It has reduced prices across the board on its commercial PCs by four to nine percent, in addition to the 20-percent price cut it announced two weeks ago.
The PC 300 with the Pentium 100 MHz microprocessor, 8 MB of memory and 540 MB hard drive will be priced at $1,499, and the PC 300 with Pentium 133 MHz with A 1.2 GB hard drive, 16 MB of memory, will start at $2,303, both down four percent from current prices.
IBM also reduced prices on its new PC 700 models by nine percent, with the entry-level PC 700 with a Pentium 100 MHz, 16MB of memory and 1.2 GB hard drive cut by $220 to a new estimated street price of $2,192.


Netscape Launch Includes Sharp Price Cuts

Netscape Communications today unveiled several major new products, including enterprise server and Web server software. At the same time it cut prices from previous versions.



A.T.& T. To Offer Netscape Browser In Its Net Service

Netscape Communications Corp. said its browsing software will be offered by AT&T Corp. as part of the phone company's new Internet access service. AT&T announced Tuesday a service that offers free and discounted prices for linking computer users to the Internet. AT&T customers will use Netscape's browsing software to hook up to the global computer network and to navigate the World Wide Web.


Sprint to offer commercial Intranet dial-up service
Using a dedicated, native IP-based backbone. The new service, called Sprint Intranet Dial Service, is designed to be secure and robust enough to handle mission-critical business data, replacing more expensive private lines. Sprint also rolled out several additional services, including Sprint Internet Dial Service, for accessing the public Internet; Sprint Internet High Speed Dedicated Access, which provides 6 Mbps, 12-Mbps and 45-Mbps dedicated lines for accessing the Internet; and Sprint Internet

Clinton, Gore venture into cyberspace

The president and vice president had the highest profile of the 20,000 volunteers who spent the day connecting classrooms in 3,000 schools across the state. Clinton told students gathered in an outdoor courtyard at Ygnacio Valley High School here that computers and access to the information superhighway are their keys to a successful future in the 21st century.
