Apple Sees Role Of PC Diminishing
CANNES, France - The personal computer is on the way out and the computer industry has to offer new products to tempt ever demanding customers, a senior Apple executive said today.
Computers of the future will be part and parcel of appliances such as televisions or play stations and will no longer be the worktool which the personal computer mainly is.
The Computer Is Going To Get Even Better
Digital Equipment Corp. launched on Feb. 5 what it
called the first microprocessor to have the speed of a supercomputer but that
runs on AA batteries and sells for less than $50.
Synergies not withstanding, SpryNet is intended for power users of the Internet who don't want or need the bells and whistles of CompuServe's online content. SpryNet offers unlimited surfing for a flat fee of $19.95 a month. Pricing plans for casual cruisers are set at $9.95 for 7 hours or $4.95 for 3 hours per month. The company promises 24-hour online customer support, as well as 3-D chat forums and home page creation tools.
CompuServe says it will offer 28.8-kbps, point-to-point-protocol connections from its 480 point-of-presence access locations by June.
Netscape Says Internet Changing The World
SINGAPORE - The Internet is changing the world and will become indispensable to all competitive societies, Netscape chairman James Clark said today.
"The Internet will be to data what the telephone system is to voice," said Clark, whose company provides Navigator, the leading browser software for the Internet.
